I work in public health because I hope to help understand how the environment affects human health and, from this understanding, how to act in defending the human right to health. My motivation for doing this is related to my personal history and is strengthened by voluntary actions undertaken and with my daily life as an urban cyclist, traveller and walker. At the moment, my challenge is to better understand the relationship between transport and health, as well as threats that social inequity in the context of urban mobility poses to the health and well-being. To do so, I have been developing my knowledge at the intersection of transport, public health, health equity and environmental sustainability, focusing on daily activities. It is with this objective that I have been doing research in the Center for Epidemiological Research in Nutrition and Health, University of São Paulo (USP-NUPENS), in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the University of Cambridge.
