Show the Change: Impacts and Solutions for Climate Change

We launched the second edition of the international photography contest “Show the Change – Impacts and solutions of climate change” seeking to create a visual radiography of the problems and opportunities of climate change in the urban context. We want to understand and transform the imaginaries of climate change through photography.

We believe that visualizing the problem of climate change and its solutions is key to mitigate it. The call is open to all professional and amateur photographers, who through creativity want to highlight the problems in the city or the possible solutions to mitigate climate change.

Categories and themes of the contest

The aim is to sensitize the community through photography on the consequences and possible solutions of climate change at an international level. The participant must choose one of the two categories:

Urban impacts of Climate Change
Urban solutions to mitigate and adapt Climate Change.

Award

  • 500 euros with the following distribution:
    • 200 euros: winner in the category Problems and Impact (chosen by the jury)
    • 200 euros: winner in the category Solutions (chosen by the jury)
    • 100 euros: winner with most likes on the Low Carbon City page on Facebook (public voting)

General Participation Conditions

  • We accept participants of all countries, as long as they are of legal age
  • The photographer must ensure that any and all presented are their own originals
  • We accept a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 2 photos (in digital format) for each participant
  • Each photo must have a title and description of a maximum of 100 words in English, Spanish or French

Registration:

The participant can choose in which category his work will be framed. It is valid to participate in both.

  • Urban solutions to mitigate and adapt Climate Change.

The participant must attach the photos that will participate in the contest according to the following established procedures:

  • Send a JPG or PNG file of maximum 15MB
  • Minimum size of 300 pixels per inch.
  • Maximum 2 photos will be accepted per participant.
  • All photographs must have a title and a description of maximum 600 characters (Language allowed: Spanish and English)
  • The file must be free of viruses, in case of finding a virus or malicious program, the request will automatically be rejected.
  • The digital retouching that is allowed is a level adjustment, brightness, contrast, slight saturation adjustment and supplementary soft focus by software. Trim, without taking the image of the context of the shot, for example, approach or simulation of macro shot by trimming.
  • Deletion or replacement of images in the original photograph of people, animals or objects that decontextualize the original shot is not allowed.
  • The photograph must not include a watermark, signature or caption.
  • The photograph must be original and not have been awarded in other contests.

* If the photograph shows faces or images of third parties, the participant declares that they have authorization to publish the image by these third parties. * The Low Carbon City Foundation is not responsible for the publication of faces or images of third parties that have not been authorized, being under the responsibility of the contestant to respond for criminal or administrative actions that may take place before the competent authorities.

Jurados

Camilo Díaz

Colombia

Camilo Diaz, born 1981 in Medellin, Colombia, studied Visual Arts at the National University of Colombia and further Fashion Photography, Advertising and Film Studies at various Universities in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His artistic work focuses on the intimate portrayal of people and their immediate lives and surroundings. More than a depiction, his photographs reveal an intimate discovery and allow shared momentum. His subjects are not strangers but rather people with whom he enters a story. In 2015 Camilo acquires 2nd place at the International Photography Awards (Lucies Awards) in New York. The following year he earns 1st place for his winning entry at the 'In-Water Photographer of the Year' awards - London, in 2017 he earns the Motion Category at Sony World Photography Awards, 2017 first and second place at National Awards Sony World Photography Awards, Camilo Diaz is still based in Medellin and continues to develop new projects. Including work with Fundación Universitaria de Bellas Artes and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Colombia and as a student of Business of Photography at the New York Institute of Photography. Oliver Ehmig

Germany

Oliver Ehmig (Hamburg-1978) is a freelancer photographer based in Colombia who devotes his days to documenting and portraying the diverse human daily life.
His passion for photography awoke from a young age, blaming Indiana jones and National Geographic magazines for encouraging his adventures and travels. He has participated in some international competitions and his photographs have been published in several media, including NGO, Semana magazine, FWA, Le Figaro (France), Verdens (Norway), The Sun (UK) and Rotorcraft (USA). Some of his works are part of the image bank of Solent News (UK) and National Geographic Creative Stock.
Since 2011 he has been working with the Colombian Armed Forces, participating in various operations and documenting the daily military life, leaving as a result an intimate approach inside the units.

Franck Vogel

France

Franck Vogel works as a photojournalist specializing in Water, Environmental, Climate & Social issues for the international press (GEO, Paris Match, Stern, Bloomberg...). He is also a speaker, a documentary film director (France Television) and an EverydayClimateChange Instagram feed contributor. He is know for his work on the Bishnoi, ecologists since the 15th century in India, and the albino issues in Tanzania, and is currently focusing on global Water Conflicts with the Transboundary Rivers' Project and has completed stories on the Nile, Brahmaputra, Colorado, Jordan, Mekong, Ganges and Zambezi. Articles are subsequently published by GEO, featured by the BBC and in exhibitions (Singapore, Paris, Geneva...) as well as in lectures Vogel gave at Columbia University or at COP22 with Erik Orsenna. Max Riché

France

Max Riché is an award-winning portrait and documentary Photographer and Director based in Paris, and Creative Director of Triptych content studio. A former engineer and environmentalist, he is renowned for delivering sophisticated, engaging and inspiring work.
In 2009, he founded the global photography movement Climate Heroes (climateheroes.org), culminating in a major exhibition in December 2015 during COP21 in Paris at the Grand Palais and publications in magazines worldwide (GEO, Le Monde, Die Zeit, Elle, …)

His projects have taken him to the Indonesian jungle with Mentawai medicine men, or bathing amongst 100 million pilgrims in India during Maha Kumbh Mela. He produced famous imagery with French Olympic athletes which later inspired Red Bull to commission him as the first photographer for the launch of Red Bull Photography in 2014. His work has been exhibited from France to China on multiple occasions.

As the Creative Director of Triptych he now strives to tell stories of human, social and environmental importance that can make a difference to support organizations voice their commitment about important topics in today's fast changing digitized and globalized world.

Max has been invited to judge multiple photo competitions around the world, with participation of over 100,000 entries, critique portfolios, and featured in interviews on influential blogs such as Profoto, 500px, ISO 12000, Petapixel, etc.

Yim Miyaki

Mexico

Cultural Promoter in Arts Education. She had her first approach to Painting and more artistic disciplines by Master Rogelio Urrusti. He stood out in the Performance and Singing in the 4 years of her studies.
Since 2014 she is involved in plastic arts, especially graffiti muralism and urban art. She became part of the Project '' Urban Art for Peace '' by CENEPRED and SESUP along with 5 colleagues from other states, they work for 3 months in the wild colonies of the capital, creating murals alluding to the Tabasco culture in méxico. Thanks to this project she continued to practice and research to improve her vision, technique and work in muralism and thanks to the popularity of the discipline she has worked in different important festivals of the Tabasco Capital, restaurants, companies.
Gaining popularity for her work, she is recognized by the Government of the State for her outstanding work in the State of Tabasco and being the only woman muralist and ambassador of the Urban Art of the State. Since then he has been involved in teaching in high schools, high schools and universities to publicize the discipline and motivate other young people to exercise it. From 2016-2018 she work as a teacher for the workshop '' Mural Painting '' name that she achieved position in the second year at the University of the Valley of Mexico where I teach the realization of murals to students of preparatory level and university. It is still painted in different states of the country and currently offers workshops to young people with the intention of promoting the appreciation of the culture of their state through urban art.

Felipe Mesa

Colombia

Production Engineer and Master in Management and Management of the Environment. With more than ten years of experience in documentary photography and nature. He is the director of the NGO Más Héroes, which uses art to inspire and generate positive transformations in society.

In 2012, her work 'Mi paso por El Rincón' was selected for the exhibition of the XXII Colombian Photography Biennial Exhibition and was a finalist in the call `` La Puerta`` of the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín (MAMM).

He has won prizes and mentions in different photography competitions, has published graphic reports in important magazines and constantly gives talks on documentary photography and nature.
