Since 2004, the NGO Cidades Sem Fome has developed sustainable agriculture projects in urban and rural areas. It wants to provide work opportunities to socially vulnerable groups with horticulture activities and to improve the nutritional situation of the population.

One of the NGOs many projects is to take advantage of unused spaces in the city to create urban gardens. In total, it counts with 27 implemented gardens in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. The last one has been created in the city of Poá in collaboration with the firm EDP Bandeirante and the Instituto Energias do Brasil.
