Carolina is the director of Low Carbon City. Her academic and professional career has been shaped by interdisciplinarity, working in the socioenvironmental field, especially in the areas of agroecology, sustainable agriculture, food security, community work and the creation of networks for territorial strengthening.
She has a degree in Biological Engineering from the National University of Colombia in Medellin, a Master’s degree in Agribusiness with a focus on family farming and a PhD at the Centre for Sustainable Development of the University of Brasilia in food systems, food security, traditional ecological knowledge and agroecology, in Colombia, Brasil, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. She has worked on issues such as: conflicts in rural areas of Colombia, ecological restoration, restoration of territories affected by mining, social empowerment and social technologies. She has led projects in organisations such as Instituto Invento, Instituto Brasileiro de Desenvolvimento e Sustentabilidade (IABS) and the Nucleus of Agroecology of the University of Brasilia. She is part of different civil society collectives and networks that advocate for the narrowing of development gaps between urban and rural areas.
