Favio Chavez’s love for music and to help others led to “la Orquesta de Instrumentos Reciclados de Cateura” (Cateura’s Orchestra of Recycled Instruments). He is an environmental engineer and musician who launched a waste management project in a suburban landfill. His role as a musician, his experience, and social sensitivity led him to form the orchestra with its peculiar instruments that presents music as a creator of opportunities and culture as a human right. The goal of the Orchestra group is the integration of children and youth who are at risk of social exclusion to make music with recycled instruments, to respect the environment, and to desire to excel. All of the instruments are made from recovered materials from the Cateura landfill.
