WORKSHOP: HEALTH RISK AND IMPACT ASSESSMENT AS TOOLS FOR AIR POLLUTION ADVOCACY (EN)

+ Más información

To set priorities and consider climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies and to make decisions about other urban policies that may affect air quality, officials and community stakeholders need answers to questions about how decisions may impact population health, for better or worse. Depending on the context and approach used, the analyses conducted to answer these questions may be referred to by different terms, including health risk assessment (HRA) and health impact assessment (HIA). At this workshop a brief presentation, question and answer and discussion format will cover the following topics: 1) goals and settings for use of HRA/ HIA; 2) data and methods; 3) examples; 4) limitations; 5) HRA/HIA tools and resources for learning more.

WORKSHOP: INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP ON FUTURE VISIONING

+ Más información

“Using the example of innovative water service delivery among different stakeholders in Medellin as an example, this workshop will introduce participants to an approach for developing a future vision for their city for a problem they want to solve in collaboration with other participants, bringing their different perspectives and leveraging their strengths. The workshop will also include tips for communicating and sharing their idea in a way that optimises its opportunity for getting support. The workshop will identify best practices and lessons learned from different case studies from around the world and identify the key characteristics that translate a vision into actionable medium and long term strategies as well as activities participants can do now to work towards that vision. This approach was conducted with young people as part of the Global Issues Network conference hosted in Medellin in March 2016, where young people were divided into groups where they identified a problem for future visioning, through steps guided by facilitators. The role of the facilitator is to flag areas that may need further development, clarification and consideration of other issues that may influence their vision. For example, a change in fiscal policy may inhibit public investment in green space.”

Air is food, energy and one of the most endangered resources on earth. We all need clean air to breathe. Without it we can‘t survive any longer than a few minutes. In the age of the Anthropocene – the era in which men has become the most important factor influencing the biological, geological and atmospheric processes on Earth – air is becoming an essential good and increasingly valuable. The development of climate positive environmental solutions and societal awarness for holistic systems is the focus of work in the breathe.earth.collective. Medellin During the Low Carbon meeting in Medellin, breathe.earth.collective will present its radical way of working and thinking. Nevertheless the main aspect will be getting in contact with local actors, start exchange and collaboration and work on a holistic air purifying project in Medellin. Transdisciplinary and local partners should be engaged to develop strategies to cooperate and pull off the local climate by activating its landscape. Nature, city and local practice should be interlinked. Breathe.earth.collective tries to use the event as platform to spread its ideas and get in touch with key local actors in order to activate them for a new vision of breathing in Medellin.
